It has already been seven weeks since we did the first installment of our plan to paddle down Lake Champlain. That hardly seems possible, but consider this. It is less than six weeks before we head north again to try the second installment. That hardly seems plausible. But calendars don’t lie, even if some of us tend to lie about the effect constantly revolving calendars may have on our get-up-and-go (or in my case, get-up-and-gone). No sir, it’s time to come to grips with this fact: in forty days and forty nights, the Malden Yacht Club will unloose a deluge of peripatetic paddlers upon the environs of Ticonderoga. Folks, I have a confession to make. Some of the information that has been on the Blog has not been one hundred percent accurate. You’re shocked, aren’t you? I know that I am. You see, I have relied on what I considered to be “unimpeachable sources,” and I have been dumbfounded to discover otherwise. Here is what happened. Last week, I read that high school and college students have been receiving failing grades because they submitted reports using information obtained from Wikipedia, and Wikipedia contains inaccurate information! Who knew? Why I, myself, have occasionally quoted that very same reference work as authority for historical authenticity, and now it appears that I may have been disseminating fiction instead of fact. Now there’s a surprise. Believe me, loyal readers, it wasn’t intentional. I merely assumed that Wikipedia had the same rigid standards for reporting unquestionable truth, that we have here at the Malden Yacht Club Blog.
