I can't help wondering if those ' nasty police officers ' who confiscated his crop and smoked it used pipes, joints, bongs, water pipes or all of the above. It sounds like Harry could easily have supplied all of them.

Mrs. Ol P you definitely brought back the colorful encounter with Harry. It was a bittersweet memory of the first of the last paddling days towards our goal of completing Lake Champlain. So instead of seeing 'Champ', we met 'Harry'. Do you think he would look good on a T shirt? Did anyone get his E-mail address? It would be neat if he wrote a blolum, bi-monthly, to coordinate with his bi-polar phases. Perhaps titled, 'Running across America with my Dogs', or 'Growing Tips From The Napa Valley'. Or, if he makes his 3rd strike in New York state he could write, 'A View from the Inside'.
Hope to see more of your blogs in the future Mrs. Ol P.

If I comprehended all that I read, I believe it was Mary PatPins who propounded those questions. I guess you will have to go to her for the answers. And to think, all this time I thought it was her umbrella that made her fly!

So do we ever get the answers to:

1) what legitimate crop does mask the presence of a healthy pot crop?
2) And then what do you do?
3) Now, how do you dry it?
4) Is Tupperware useful for long term storage?

I only ask because, well, erm. never mind.

"I have received the message, and I promise to behave appropriately during our trip north."

Time for an update. I DID behave appropriately while up north ... at least until the night after our first day on the water and another trip across yet one more never-ending bay. It was a long day, and a long bay, and I was thirsty. Coincidentally, at the restaurant we chose that evening, some time was spent at the bar until a table could be found for the Malden Yacht Club. At this bar, I was offered a choice of sizes for my draft beer; I could either have one described as a "girley beer" or I could choose one that was approximately the size of a large pail. I'm in the Malden Yacht Club ... I chose the second option ... more than once ... Mother Nature was paying attention.

The next day, we opted to make a crossing from the main shore to the east side of an island, a choice that didn't seem to have any potential adverse ramifications ... other than having to deal with a fierce wind of a changeable disposition, precipice creating waves approaching from multiple directions, rocket-like motor boats determined to slice through our group as fast as the boats could go, and resulting boat wakes that completely converted the water to "agitation mode." Staying on my kayak was hard enough, without also trying to move it forward to a specific spot. I felt like I was riding a bull in a rodeo ... and I came close to staining my brand new paddling pants.

For the rest of the weekend, I made sure that I "behaved appropriately during the remainder of our trip north."
